Community Activist
From a young age, volunteering was instilled by my parents. They believed that it was important to be of service to others. Since then, I continue to be a part of community organizations aimed to help others.
In 2019, Meg started my own 501c3 non profit, PeriodPower Pantry. In 2017 and 2019, Meg lost her home to rising flood waters from two hurricanes and new how devastating the lost can be. After receiving generous amounts of help to rebuild her home and supplies, she noticed that there were not any menstrual hygiene supplies. Meg had the unfortunate experience of “periods not stopping for any natural disaster. In 2019, she knew she wanted to help remedy that and started collecting menstrual and hygiene supplies. Her goal was to help victims return to a state of normalcy. Since then, we have provided over 5000 our “period packs” to schools, women’s shelters, and non-profits in the Southeast Texas, Southwest Louisiana, and Houston areas. Her programs have expanded to Menstrual Workplace Baskets, First Period Kits, Homeless Menstrual Bags, and Natural Disaster Kits. For more information, click on the PeriodPower logo.
Meg was a shy girl who did not have a lot of self-confidence growing up. Growing up, she knew she wanted to be confident and comfortable with who she was. She asked her parents to join leadership classes which helped her confident and leadership skills. In 2021, Meg wanted to pass it forward and created G.E.M. - Girls Empowerment Movement, which is a leadership program that aims to develop self-confidence, improve coping skills, and create a passion for service in young girls in her community.
Meg also started Clothing the Deal as a way to help adults get back into the workplace. She provides free resume, mock interview services, and a work wardrobe consultation.
Meg loves the outdoors and has always enjoyed riding her bike. After meeting her husband, who is a serious cyclist, she was welcomed with open arms into the local cycling community. She loved the passion and the purpose each cyclist had for being healthy and being out in the open. She had participated in many charity bike rides in the area, and knew she wanted to start one herself benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association. Her father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when she was 21 years old, also love cycling and that made creating this charity bike ride even more special.
