Is Your Resume Up to Date?

There are many reasons why to have an updated resume but, one of the main reasons is to acknowledge your accomplishments in your career. Did you get certified in a particular area? Were you awarded an honor of recognition? Did you lead a team of your colleagues to improve a particular way of doing things?

You are a leader and you are an innovator. Adding these successful milestones is important to show your future employer how well rounded you are. Update your resume while these accomplishments are fresh in your mind. When you do this, you will be able to capture the essence of your improvement project. When an interviewer reads your accomplishment back to you or asks you about it, those clear, succinct words will bring you back to that particular moment allowing you to elaborate fully on your success.

Sometimes, I have found myself rushing to update my resume the night before an interviewer or while I am applying for the job online. After sending the resume, there are important pieces of my resume that I forgot to add or I felt like I did not explain myself entirely. Updating your resume when you have the time and you can sit in front of your computer is the better way. It takes time to curate the best of your best. You have accomplished so much in your career, why not take the time to think about your resume thoroughly. You want to show your how valuable you are in an interview. Taking the time with updating your resume acts as the map for the interviewer to figure out how valuable you are.

If you not have many accomplishments to put on your resume, think about what you would like to accomplish. What are your goals for your career? How do you want to improve your current work situation? What is your end goal? By creating a plan of what you want to accomplish, you are on step closer to your dream job. Once you complete your goal, write it down! You do not have to brag about yourself during the interview, let your resume do that for you.
