One of the first things we learn when we are little is our name. It may not be our legal name or your complete name but the name you want to go by. Your name is your identity. Your name will follow you the rest of your life. Your name is important to you and your image. You also want people to remember your name. It feels good when someone remembers your name.

This also goes for other people too. People like it when you remember their name as well as what you and that person talked about the time before. When you remember someone’s name, the instantly feel “connected” to you. Recalling their name gives them a sense of feeling important. You made them feel important. Isn’t that what we all want?

So, be that person who can remember names. Be that person that can people feel special. You will get noticed and be will talk about how you make them feel. Now, I remind you to do this in an altruistic manner. Anything not sincere in nature will be easily identified.

One way to remember someone’s is to truly pay attention to them. Listen to what they are saying. Position yourself so that you are fully present with that person. Pick up on key factors that can help you remember that particular person.

You can also say there name while conversing with them. Repeating their name several times will help you remember their name as well. Whenever you are remembering something, repetition is a great exercise to use.

Lastly, create a vivid association with the person and things that are familiar with you. If this person knows one of your friends and associates, this could be how you associate this new person. Maybe you found out one of their favorite hobbies, you can associate that hobby with the person.

Whatever makes an impact on you to remember a person’s name, use it. The important goal is to be polite and considerate. If you can’t recall someone’s name, perhaps you remember where you first met or the association you made with that person. It’s OK to ask the person to repeat his or her name. It will be even better by recalling something special you remember about that person.
