5 Reasons for Being on Time

I’m sure you have heard the saying, “If you’re early you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late.” Being on time to class, an interview, or a meeting shows that you respect the person or persons you are meeting with. Have you scheduled a meeting and the person shows up to the meeting 10-15 minutes or more after the set time? How frustrating is that? You are busy and having to wait for someone does not work with your schedule. And, once that person finally arrives you have to fly through your planned agenda and not get any quality work completed because you have meet your next appointment.

It is very frustrating.

The biggest frustration, however, should be that you are losing money. No one wants to lose money.

If you arrive to the interview late, most likely the interviewer is not going to hire you. To them, they see someone who really doesn’t care about their company nor themselves. Being late does not pay. If you are meeting a new client and you arrive late, that new client is not going to want to do business with you. In turn, your company will not profit from that partnership.

However if you are running late, let that person know. Call, text, email. Do something to let the person know that you’re on your way, you care about the meeting, and you will be there soon. Things happen. You forget something, there’s an accident on your way to the meeting, or you got lost on you’re way to the meeting. Those incidences are understandable but you need to let the person on the other end know what’s going on.

Communication is always the key.

  1. Respect for Others: Arriving on time shows that you value the time of those you meet. It demonstrates consideration for others and helps foster positive relationships, whether in a professional or personal setting.

  2. Improved Productivity: Being punctual allows you to make the most of your time. It helps maintain focus and efficiency, ensuring that you can partake in the full extent of meetings, classes, or events without missing important information.

  3. Enhanced Reputation: Consistently being on time builds a reputation of reliability and professionalism. This can lead to greater opportunities in your career and personal life, as others will see you as dependable and trustworthy.

  4. Reduced Stress: Arriving on time can significantly decrease anxiety. Knowing that you are not rushing or worrying about being late creates a more relaxed mindset, allowing you to engage more fully in your activities.

  5. Greater Control: Being punctual gives you the opportunity to prepare and settle in before an event begins. This extra time can help you gather your thoughts, review materials, or simply take a deep breath, contributing to a more effective and composure-filled experience.
