Positively Speaking
Have you ever recorded your voice on your phone or heard yourself in a video. If you were recording a special gathering, you probably sound (and look) happy and fun-loving. Your voice is letting everyone how you are feeling at that particular moment.
Now, have you heard your voice or tone when you are in serious situation or work-related situation? Your tone is most likely different…unless you have a fun and exciting job!
Obviously our tones change depending on the situation we’re in. We may not even hear the difference in our tone. However, those around you can tell. I remember I can tell my mother’s mood and how I was going to act around her at that particular moment by her tone. Don’t get me wrong, my mom is the best but, people can have bad days and frustrating moments.
Through out the week, pay attention to your tone. Are you frustrated, sad, tired, happy? Even if you are feeling frustrated, sad, tired, mad, beat down, or upset…try to keep your tone even. Try not to take these particular feelings out on your co-workers, family, or Starbucks cashier. Work through those feelings because bad days and frustrating moments happen. And somedays your tone may be the one of those few things you can control when everything else is out of control.
